Did you know that, as of November 2015, pool owners in Queensland must adhere to new safety standards for fencing? Today, Queensland pools must be surrounded by fences that are a minimum of 1200mm high. There are also several other rules that owners must comply with when constructing their pool fences, such as avoiding a gap of more than 100mm between the ground and the bottom of the barrier. You can click here to read more about the new standards from the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC).
If you do not currently have a pool fence, or if your pool fence is shorter than 1200mm, you are in violation of the QBCC standard. Failing to comply with this law can result in an on-the-spot fine of more than $850 (for individual pool owners) or $2,438 (for businesses). Court penalties for pool fencing violations, meanwhile, can go up to $20,113.50, according to the QBCC.
Needless to say, failing to comply with the QBCC's standards for pool fencing can be a costly proposition, whether you are a home- or business owner. Furthermore, failing to comply with these rules can be a significant safety hazard for young children. If you have no pool fencing around your Brisbane Southside swimming pool, or if your pool fencing isn’t tall enough, a child could feasibly get into an unsupervised swimming pool.
To prevent a possible tragedy—and to save yourself a considerable sum of money—it's time to call a company to install new pool fencing around your Brisbane Southside swimming pool. But what if you don't like the idea of surrounding your beautiful swimming pool with an unattractive fence? What if your favourite thing about having a swimming pool is the view that you enjoy from the home to the pool, or from the pool to your garden and patio.
